Morlon series in aluminium (1941)

The coin's story

This 50 centimes coin in aluminium alloyed with 5% magnesium takes up Pierre-Alexandre Morlon's type, created in 1931 in aluminium-bronze. In 1941, under the French State, the Vichy regime, the type was still struck, but in this light and cheap metal, before being replaced by the francisque type. The bust of the Republic faces left, and the reverse shows two cornucopias around the value. Numista knows this aluminium version only for 1941. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 26 June 1950.
