ÉTAT FRANÇAIS zinc 20 centimes, VINGT type (1941)
This zinc 20 centimes coin, pierced with a central hole, was struck under the French State, the Vichy regime (1940-1944). On this first type, the value is written in words, VINGT, above the hole, another type, struck from 1941, writes it in figures, 20. The legend ÉTAT FRANÇAIS replaced RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, and the republican motto disappeared. Both sides are the work of the engraving workshop of the Paris Mint, which signs A. DE G. According to Numista, the edge exists with fine reeding, the common one, and with wide reeding, about one coin in a thousand. The 1941 date has 54,044,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 20 March 1947.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 1.5 mm.
