Series of bronze 10 centimes with Ceres (1870-1898)

The coin's story

This bronze 10 centimes coin, 95% copper, 4% tin and 1% zinc, was struck in the early years of the Third Republic. The obverse shows the Republic in the guise of Ceres, goddess of the harvest, with a wreath of wheat, olive and oak and a headband bearing the word CONCOR. It is signed by the engraver Eugène-André Oudiné. The reverse places the value within a wreath, with the letter A of the Paris Mint. The type was struck from 1870 to 1898, before being replaced by that of Daniel-Dupuis. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 31 October 1934.
