Series of 5 centimes with the ear of wheat (1961-1964)

The coin's story

This stainless steel 5 centimes coin belongs to the first small denominations of the new franc. It takes up Marcel Guilleminet's design for the 1 centime: an ear of wheat and the legend république française in cursive script. The reverse places the value between the date and the word centimes. The type was struck only from 1961 to 1964, then the 5 centimes changed to nickel-aluminium-bronze with Lagriffoul's Marianne from 1966. The 1963 date has 71,900,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender as early as 1 February 1966.
