The coin's story
This 20 centimes coin in nickel-aluminium-bronze, 92% copper, 6% aluminium and 2% nickel, belongs to the series of small denominations of the new franc, struck from 1962 to 2001. The profile of Marianne facing the wind is the work of the sculptor Henri Lagriffoul, and the reverse that of Adrien Dieudonné. Around the date are the cornucopia of the Paris Mint and the mark of the engraver general. In 1981, it is the dolphin of Émile Rousseau, engraver general from 1974 to 1994. The 1981 date has 125,000,011 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 17 February 2002, after the changeover to the euro.
