The coin's story

This bronze 10 centimes coin, 95% copper, 4% tin and 1% zinc, was designed by the engraver Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis. It replaced from 1897 the series with the head of Ceres and circulated until the 1920s. The obverse shows the bust of Liberty wearing the Phrygian cap. The reverse depicts the armoured Republic, seated on a rock with a flag and an olive branch, and a child holding ears of wheat and a hammer. The 1913 date, struck on the eve of the First World War, has 9,000,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 31 October 1934.
