The coin's story
This bronze 5 centimes coin belongs to the series with the head of Ceres, struck from 1871 to 1898 under the Third Republic. The obverse, signed OUDINÉ, shows the Republic in the guise of Ceres, goddess of the harvest, wreathed with ears of wheat, with a headband bearing the word CONCOR. The reverse, engraved according to Numista by Joseph-François Domard, places the value and the letter A of the Paris Mint within a wreath of olive and laurel. The 1897 date is one of the last of the type, which was then replaced by the Daniel-Dupuis series. It has 12,600,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 31 October 1934.
