Series of cupronickel 10 centimes by Lindauer (1917-1938)

The coin's story

This 10 centimes coin in cupronickel, 75% copper and 25% nickel, is pierced with a central hole. After a first trial in nickel in 1914, the type designed by Edmond-Émile Lindauer was struck for circulation in cupronickel from 1917. It remained in use until 1938. The obverse bears the RF monogram below a Phrygian cap adorned with a cockade, within an oak wreath, the reverse, the value around the hole and an olive branch. According to Numista, the coins of 1922 to 1927 were partly struck by the Société française de monnayage, at Poissy. The 1921 date has 42,767,538 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 20 March 1947.
