Nickel 5 francs by Bazor (1933)

The coin's story

This nickel 5 francs coin, designed by the engraver Lucien Bazor, was struck only in 1933. Nicknamed at the time the “Bédoucette”, after the Minister of Finance, it was poorly received by the public, who found it too far removed from the large silver 5 francs coins of the past. At 6 grams and 23.7 millimetres, it was indeed small for its value. The same year, it was replaced by Lavrillier's 5 francs, twice as heavy. The date has 160,078,050 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 5 February 1937.
