Series of holed zinc 10 centimes of the French State, small module (1943-1944)

The coin's story

This zinc 10 centimes coin, pierced with a central hole, is the reduced version of the 10 centimes of the French State, the Vichy regime. The large module of 1941, of 21 millimetres and 2.5 grams, was replaced in 1943 by this small module of 17.3 millimetres and 1.5 grams, saving even more metal. The legend ÉTAT FRANÇAIS replaced RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Both sides are the work of the engraving workshop of the Paris Mint, which signs A. DE G. The 1943 date has 24,638,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 20 March 1947.
