Both sides are the work of Jean-Pierre Gendis. The edge bears the incuse LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ, depending on its reading direction, edge A and edge B are distinguished, as on this example. The 1984 date has 10,001,847 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 1 July 1993.
