The coin's story
This 1 franc coin in aluminium-bronze, 91% copper and 9% aluminium, belongs to the type designed by Pierre-Alexandre Morlon (1878-1951), struck from 1931 to 1941 in 50 centimes, 1 franc and 2 francs. The bust of the Republic faces left, and the reverse shows two cornucopias around the value. It was issued under the Third Republic, in the depths of the crisis of the 1930s. Under the Vichy regime, the Morlon type gave way to the francisque type, then it was taken up again in aluminium after the Liberation. The 1934 date has 17,285,800 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 5 August 1949.
