Series of 1 franc with the Sower (1960-2001)

The coin's story

This nickel 1 franc coin takes up the Sower designed in 1897 by the engraver Louis-Oscar Roty. The new franc, worth 100 old francs, was introduced in 1960, and the Sower then returned on the new coins. The 1 franc coin with the Sower was struck from 1960 to 2001. According to Numista, the size of the mark of the engraver general, an owl, decreased during 1965. The 1964 date has 77,450,600 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 17 February 2002, after the changeover to the euro.
