The coin's story

This bronze 2 centimes coin belongs to the series designed by the engraver Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis for the small denominations of the Third Republic. The obverse shows the bust of Liberty wearing the Phrygian cap adorned with a wreath. The reverse, simpler than that of the 5 and 10 centimes, places the value and the date within an olive branch. The type was struck from 1898 to 1920. The 1911 date has 5,000,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 24 November 1940.
