The coin's story

This 10 francs coin in nickel-aluminium-bronze commemorates the millennium of the Capetian dynasty. It depicts Hugh Capet, crowned and standing, on a field strewn with small crosses. According to Numista, Hugh Capet (940-996) became King of the Franks at the end of the tenth century and founded the Capetian dynasty. The other side bears the value and the legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE separated from the motto by small crosses. Both sides are the work of Gérard Baldrati. The coin was struck in 19,958,656 pieces and ceased to be legal tender on 1 July 1993.
