The coin's story

This 1 franc coin in 900 thousandths silver, weighing 22.22 grams, was not intended for circulation. It commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Fifth Republic, founded in 1958 with Charles de Gaulle, whose profile adorns the obverse. Both sides are the work of Émile Rousseau, engraver general of the coinage from 1974 to 1994. The reverse places the value within a hexagon, with the dates 1958 and 1988. This silver version was struck in 60,000 pieces in proof.
