Series of zinc 10 Reichspfennig (1940-1945)

The coin's story

This zinc 10 Reichspfennig coin was struck under the Third Reich, during the Second World War. Pre-war coins contained copper, which the army needed for armaments, from 1940, the 1, 5 and 10 Reichspfennig denominations were therefore struck in zinc, at the seven mints of the Reich, including Vienna (B). Both sides are the work of Otto Vogt and Hans Herbert Schweitzer: the eagle above the swastika on one side, the value and the mint letter between two oak leaves on the other. The 1942 date has 20,295,000 pieces in Karlsruhe.
