The coin's story

This copper 2 pfennig coin was struck under William II, German Emperor from 1888 to 1918, in the mark system created in 1873 after the unification of Germany. The obverse, engraved by Otto Schultz, shows the large crowned imperial eagle, wearing the collar of the Order of the Black Eagle and bearing the arms of Prussia, with the mint letter twice in the exergue. The reverse, by Emil Weigand, bears the value surrounded by DEUTSCHES REICH and the date. This large-eagle type was struck from 1904 to 1916 at the six mints of the Empire. The 1911 date has 8,186,918 pieces in Berlin.
