2 Rentenpfennig (1923-1924)

The coin's story

This bronze 2 Rentenpfennig coin belongs to the emergency currency that ended German hyperinflation. On 15 November 1923, the Rentenmark replaced the paper mark, which had become worthless, at a rate of one trillion paper marks to one Rentenmark, and prices stopped soaring. The Rentenpfennig coins were struck only in 1923 and 1924, the gold-backed Reichsmark took over on 30 August 1924, and the Reichspfennig coins took up the same design. Reinhard Kullrich designed the value surrounded by DEUTSCHES REICH and a sheaf of wheat dividing the figures of the date. The 1923 date has 1,490,869 pieces in Munich.
