50 pfennig “Sich regen bringt Segen” (1919-1922)

The coin's story

This aluminium 50 pfennig coin was struck under the Weimar Republic, in the aftermath of the First World War. One side shows a sheaf of wheat and the motto Sich regen bringt Segen, “activity brings blessing”, in Gothic letters, the other, the value surrounded by DEUTSCHES REICH and the date. Both sides are the work of Louis Oppenheim and Reinhard Kullrich. The type was struck from 1919 to 1922. The 1921 date has 184,468,127 pieces in Berlin. The inflation that spiralled in 1922 and 1923 made it lose all value.
