This 10 pfennig coin is a wartime coin of the German Empire. During the First World War, nickel and copper were requisitioned for the army: the 5 and 10 pfennig coins were first struck in iron, then, for the 10 pfennig, in zinc, which does not rust. The obverse takes up the large crowned imperial eagle, bearing the arms of Prussia. According to Numista, this zinc type, struck from 1917 to 1922, bears no mint letter, and it is not magnetic. The 1917 date has 75,073,243 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 11 October 1924.
