Series of nickel 50 Reichspfennig (1927-1938)

The coin's story

This nickel 50 Reichspfennig coin was struck under the Weimar Republic, in the system of the Reichsmark, backed by gold and introduced on 30 August 1924 after hyperinflation. One side shows the German eagle surrounded by the legend DEUTSCHES REICH and the date, above two oak branches, the other, the value and the mint letter on a guilloché background. The type was struck from 1927 to 1938. The 1928 date has 8,618,000 pieces at Muldenhütten. Nickel, a strategic metal, was withdrawn from circulation during the war, and the coin ceased to be legal tender on 1 August 1940.
