The coin's story
This zinc 5 Reichspfennig coin, pierced with a central hole, was not intended for Germany itself. It was issued in the name of the Reichskreditkassen, the Reich credit offices founded on 23 September 1939 to supply money to the regions occupied by Germany during the Second World War. One side bears a swastika pierced in the centre and the legend in Gothic script, the other, the bust of an eagle, oak leaves and the value. The type was struck only in 1940 and 1941. The 1940 date has 11,310,763 pieces in Berlin.
