Series of aluminium-bronze 5 Reichspfennig (1924-1936)

The coin's story

This aluminium-bronze 5 Reichspfennig coin belongs to the coinage of the Weimar Republic created after hyperinflation. On 15 November 1923, the Rentenmark replaced the paper mark at a rate of one trillion marks to one Rentenmark, on 30 August 1924, the gold-backed Reichsmark took over. The 5 and 10 Reichspfennig coins, designed by the sculptor Waldemar Raemisch, show six ears of wheat with crossed stalks and the value within a lozenge between oak leaves. For 1925 at Stuttgart (F), Numista distinguishes a “large 5” and a “small 5”, the latter struck in 20,990,000 pieces, this example is recorded as a large 5, without a separate mintage. The type was struck until 1936.
