Series of bronze 1 Reichspfennig with the eagle (1936-1940)
This bronze 1 Reichspfennig coin belongs to the series that the Third Reich introduced in 1936 to replace the types of the Weimar Republic. The eagle with outspread wings holds a swastika within a wreath, above the legend DEUTSCHES REICH and the date. This type, still struck in a copper alloy, was abandoned in 1940: as copper was reserved for armaments, the small denominations switched to zinc. The 1940 date has 27,094,471 pieces in Berlin. This 1940 example is therefore one of the last in bronze before zinc.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 1.2 mm.
