Series of 10 cents of Wilhelmina (1910-1925)

The coin's story

This 10 cents coin in 640 thousandths silver belongs to the series struck from 1910 to 1925 in the name of Queen Wilhelmina. Wilhelmina became queen in November 1890, on the death of her father William III, her mother Emma acted as regent until she came of age, and she was inaugurated on 6 September 1898. She reigned until 1948. The portrait, with the hair gathered up, is attributed to Johannes Cornelis Wienecke, chief engraver of the Utrecht Mint. The reverse shows the value and the date within a wreath of oak leaves. The type has varieties of the wreath in 1912 and of the beads in 1918. The 1914 date was struck in 9,000,000 pieces at the Utrecht Mint, under the mintmaster Copius Hoitsema.
