25th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands (1945-1970)
This 10 guilder coin in 720 thousandths silver commemorates the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945. It brings together the two queens of the war and post-war years: Juliana on the obverse, and on the reverse Wilhelmina, who had left for England in 1940 with the government in exile after the German invasion. The reverse legend, NEDERLAND HERRIJST (The Netherlands rises again), recalls the reconstruction of the country. Both sides are the work of the sculptor Ludwig Oswald Wenckebach, who signs W. The coin was struck at the Utrecht Mint in 5,980,000 standard pieces, plus 20,000 pieces of proof-like appearance. The edge bears the motto GOD ZIJ MET ONS (God be with us).
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 2.25 mm.
