Series of 1 gulden of Wilhelmina by Pier Pander (1898-1909)
This silver guilder (1 gulden) in 945 thousandths silver belongs to the series struck from 1898 to 1909 in the name of Queen Wilhelmina. Wilhelmina became Queen of the Netherlands in November 1890, on the death of her father, her mother Emma acted as regent until she came of age, and she was inaugurated on 6 September 1898. She reigned until 1948. The portrait is the work of the sculptor Pier Pander, based on the image of the young queen at the age of 18, at the time of her inauguration. It replaced the youthful long-haired portrait engraved by Schammer. The reverse bears the crowned arms of the Netherlands and the legend MUNT VAN HET KONINGRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN (Coin of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). The 1907 date was struck in 5,100,000 pieces at the Utrecht Mint, under the mintmaster Hugo Laurens Adriaan van den Wall Bake.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 1.9 mm.
