This silver guilder in 720 thousandths silver belongs to the series struck from 1922 to 1945 in the name of Queen Wilhelmina. Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands from 1890 to 1948, came to the throne at the age of ten on the death of her father William III, under the regency of her mother Emma until 1898. The portrait was designed by Johannes Cornelis Wienecke, chief engraver of the Utrecht Mint. The reverse bears the arms of the Netherlands and the legend MUNT VAN HET KONINGRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN (Coin of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). During the war, in 1944 and 1945, this guilder was also struck at Philadelphia for the government in exile. The 1939 date was struck in 14,200,000 pieces at the Utrecht Mint, under the mintmaster W.J. van Heteren. The edge bears the motto GOD ZIJ MET ONS (God be with us).
