10 Gulden - 25th anniversary of the reign of Queen Juliana.

The coin's story

This 10 guilder coin in 720 thousandths silver celebrates the 25 years of reign of Queen Juliana. Juliana became queen on 4 September 1948, on the abdication of her mother Wilhelmina, was inaugurated on 6 September and reigned until her own abdication on 30 April 1980, in favour of her daughter Beatrix. Before her accession, she had already acted as regent during her mother's illness, in the autumn of 1947 and again in the spring of 1948. The portrait is the work of the sculptor Catharina (Katinka) Elisabeth van Rood. The coin was struck at the Utrecht Mint, under the mintmaster Marius van den Brandhof, in 4,500,000 standard pieces and 105,570 in proof. The edge bears the motto GOD ZIJ MET ONS (God be with us).
