Zinc occupation coinage (1941-1945)

The coin's story

This zinc 10 øre coin was struck during the German occupation of Norway. In April 1940, Germany invaded Norway, the King refused to recognise the government imposed by the occupier. According to Numista, the occupation coins were struck in iron or zinc instead of bronze and cupronickel, for the war effort, and lost the royal crown and the King's motto. The obverse shows the shield with the Norwegian lion holding an axe, below the word NORGE. The central hole of the pre-war coins disappeared. The type was struck from 1941 to 1945. The 1942 date has 50,387,600 pieces.
