50 pence coin of Jersey with the arms, struck in 1981 only
Jersey's 50 new pence coin, introduced in 1969 as in the United Kingdom, bears the arms of the island. In 1981, the word NEW disappeared from the legend, which became FIFTY PENCE, a year before the United Kingdom did the same on its own coins. This type was struck that year only, in 50,000 pieces for circulation and 6,000 in proof, before the series of the island's monuments launched in 1983. The reverse shows George Kruger Gray's shield with three leopards, between the figures of the date, and the obverse Arnold Machin's portrait of Elizabeth II. Like the other large 50 pence coins, this 30 mm coin was demonetised on 30 April 1998.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 2.45 mm.
