Jersey 10 new pence, issued before decimalisation (1968)
Like the United Kingdom, Jersey put its 5 and 10 new pence coins into circulation as early as 1968, three years before the official change to the decimal system in 1971. The 10 new pence coin had the same value as the old two-shilling florin and could therefore circulate alongside it during the transition. The reverse shows George Kruger Gray's shield of Jersey with three leopards, and the obverse Arnold Machin's portrait of Elizabeth II. In 1968, the Royal Mint struck 1,500,000 pieces. The type was struck until 1980, after which the word NEW disappeared from Jersey's coins. This large 28.5 mm module was demonetised on 1 July 1993, after the introduction of a smaller 10 pence coin.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 2.2 mm.
