Silver wedding of Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid (1960)
This silver 5 kroner coin celebrates the silver wedding of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid, married on 24 May 1935 in Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan) by the Archbishop of Uppsala, Erling Eidem. Frederik, then Crown Prince of Denmark, married Ingrid, granddaughter of King Gustaf V of Sweden, he came to the throne in 1947. Issued by the National Bank of Denmark, the coin was not intended for circulation: it was sold to the public for 10 kroner, twice its face value. It was struck by the Royal Mint in Copenhagen and bears the initial C of the mintmaster Alfred Kristian Frederik Christiansen. Both sides are the work of Harald Salomon, chief medallist of the Mint from 1933 to 1968, who designed all the Danish coins of the reign of Frederik IX. Silver and gold medals were struck on the same theme.
