Series of 25 øre of Christian X (1913-1919)
This 25 øre coin in 600 thousandths silver belongs to the series struck from 1913 to 1919 in the name of Christian X, King of Denmark from 1912 to 1947. Like the small denominations of the same period, it bears the King's crowned monogram rather than his portrait. It belongs to the decimal coinage born of the Scandinavian Monetary Union of 1873, which divides the krone into 100 øre. Christian X succeeded his father Frederik VIII, who died in Hamburg on 14 May 1912, and reigned until his death in 1947. The coin is the work of Knud Gunnar Jensen, chief medallist of the Royal Mint in Copenhagen from 1901 to 1933, who signs GJ. The initials VBP are those of Vilhelm Burchard Poulsen, mintmaster until 1918, the 1916 date was struck in 938,000 pieces. The coin ceased to be legal tender on 30 September 2008.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 1.3 mm.
