Series of 25 øre of Frederik VIII (1907-1911)
This silver 25 øre coin belongs to the series struck from 1907 to 1911 in the name of Frederik VIII, King of Denmark from 29 January 1906 to 14 May 1912. Son of Christian IX, he came to the throne at the age of 62, after a very long time as crown prince that had kept him away from power. He died in Hamburg in 1912, during a walk, and his eldest son succeeded him as Christian X, his second son had become King of Norway in 1905 as Haakon VII. The portrait is the work of Knud Gunnar Jensen, chief medallist of the Royal Mint in Copenhagen from 1901 to 1933, who signs GJ below the bust. The initials VBP are those of the mintmaster Vilhelm Burchard Poulsen. The 1907 date was struck in 2,009,000 pieces, and the coin ceased to be legal tender on 30 September 2008.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 1.3 mm.
