This coin belongs to the series of pennies of George V, but it introduces the King's “Second Effigy” (or “Modified Effigy”), used from 1927 to 1936.

The coin's story

The 1927 date is the first to feature the second effigy of George V. It is also a relatively large date in terms of production. Precise identification rests on the detail of the obverse legend: the new spacing of the stops after BRITT: (BRITT: OMN) distinguishes it from previous pennies. The official weight of these coins was 48 to the avoirdupois pound (about 9.45 grams).
