The portrait of King Olav V facing left.

This series of coins continues the tradition of including elements of Norwegian wildlife on the lower denominations. The bird on this coin is an example of Norwegian numismatic design of the time, which integrated the nature for which the country is famous. The 25-øre coin of this type was replaced by a new design in 1974 and was finally demonetized in 1985.
