This large 5 pesos coin in 900 thousandths silver, weighing 30 grams, was struck only in 1947 and 1948. Its reverse shows the bust of Cuauhtémoc with headdress and ornaments, the last Aztec emperor from 1520 to 1521, who defended Tenochtitlan when it was besieged by the Spaniards and was executed by Cortés around 1525. This same bust would later be used for the 50 centavos coins. The obverse bears the Mexican eagle on its cactus, above an oak branch and an olive branch tied with a ribbon. The reverse legend gives the value, the weight, the fineness, the Mexico City Mint and the year.
