Isle of Man Christmas coin (1984)

The coin's story

Since 1980, the Isle of Man has issued each year a 50 pence coin devoted to Christmas, struck by the Pobjoy Mint. The 1984 subject, engraved by Leslie Lindsay, shows a station scene in winter: a steam locomotive in the foreground, a second train passing behind, and travellers laden with parcels hurrying for the holidays. The obverse bears the bust of Elizabeth II after Arnold Machin, with the PM mark of the Pobjoy Mint. The 1984 coins bear die letters, from AA to AD for the circulation strike, and a proof version was sold in a Christmas card.
