25th anniversary of the accession of King Baudouin (1976)
This silver 250 francs coin celebrates the 25 years of reign of King Baudouin. Son of Leopold III, he received the royal prerogatives in August 1950, at the end of the Royal Question, then took the oath on 17 July 1951, the day after his father's abdication: at 21, he became the fifth King of the Belgians. The portrait is the work of Antoon Luyckx, who signs Ant.Luyckx, and the reverse with the crowned monogram that of Marc Severin. Struck at the Royal Mint in Brussels, the coin exists in a French version and a Dutch version, each with a mintage of 1,000,000 standard pieces. In addition, for each language, there are 75,000 pieces in brilliant uncirculated quality (BU), recognisable by their small B, their small value and the star on their edge. Not intended for circulation, the coin was demonetised on 19 November 1985.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 2.85 mm.
