Series of 100 francs of the dynasty type (1948-1954)
This 100 francs coin in 835 thousandths silver, known as the “dynasty type”, brings together the superimposed profiles of the first four Kings of the Belgians: Leopold III, Albert I, Leopold II and Leopold I, below a star symbolising the Belgian Congo. It was struck from 1948, during the regency of Prince Charles, brother of Leopold III, elected regent by Parliament on 20 September 1944 after the King's deportation. Leopold III's conduct during the war divided the country: the referendum of 12 March 1950 gave about 58% of the vote to his return, but Wallonia rejected it. Having returned on 22 July 1950, the King had to entrust his prerogatives to his son Baudouin, then abdicated in 1951. The design is the work of Marcel Rau. This version is in Dutch, with the word BELGIË, the 1951 date was struck in 4,691,000 pieces. The coin was demonetised on 16 July 1979.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 2.5 mm.
