Series of 50 centesimi of Charles Felix (1823-1831)
This 50 centesimi coin in 900 thousandths silver belongs to the series struck from 1823 to 1831 in the name of Charles Felix, King of Sardinia. He succeeded his brother Victor Emmanuel I in 1821, who abdicated in the face of a liberal uprising, he rejected the constitution granted by the regent Charles Albert, called in the Austrians and reigned as an absolute sovereign until his death in 1831. The Piedmontese lira, divided into 100 centesimi, was then worth one French franc. The portrait was engraved by Amedeo Lavy. The reverse shows the crowned shield of Savoy between two oak branches, with the collar of the order. This 1829 example bears the eagle's head mark, struck in 254,629 pieces.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 0.8 mm.
