Circulating series of the Kuwaiti dinar (since 1961)
This cupronickel 100 fils coin belongs to the circulating series of Kuwait, whose design has not changed since 1961. That year, the Kuwaiti dinar, divided into 1,000 fils, replaced the Gulf rupee at a rate of 13⅓ rupees to the dinar, then at par with the pound sterling. The obverse bears the value within a circle, with the country's name in Arabic and English, and the reverse a dhow, the traditional sailing ship of the Gulf. The date 1400 of the Hijra (1980) was struck during the reign of Emir Jaber III al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1977-2006). The coins of this series are struck by the British Royal Mint. Since 2012, the 100 fils coin has been struck in nickel-plated steel.
Actual size compared with the 2 € and 1 € coins. Thickness: 1.5 mm.
