The years 1974-1975 were a period of complex transition, marked by political and social unrest, including attempts at coup d'état and differences on the country's future orientation.
The obverse has a laureate head on the left. The main legend carries the motto « LIBERDADE DEMOCRACIA », framed by the date « 1984 » on the left, and the signature of the engraver, NORTE D'ALMEIDA.
Le revers de la pièce est dominé par l'écu portugais à gauche, équilibré par l'indication de la valeur, « 25 ESCUDOS », placée à droite.
